man power has proven on many occasions to be adept at all manner of different moods within the hardware house canon, but on this occasion hes particularly focusing on creating an exotic feeling out of mechanical means. tropical bastard is a fitting title for this project for not an animal records, with the original steeped in driving patterns of rhythm and melody that approximate a flavour of far flung lands while mutating the feeling into something more club-minded. lord of the isles goes one step further with a remix that ramps the modulation up to devilishly wonky levels. tropical bastard 2inch is an entirely different beast that plays on a cinematic vision of tropical escape, but with an acid thread pulsing through it. then the frank butters remix finishes the ep off with a more submerged, but equally mischievous take.

throughout the 90’s, dj bone was one of detroit’s best kept secrets. releasing only a handful of 12 inches, bone’s eclectic and fast mixing style became popular in his home town, starting with his weekly residency at the love club, and gaining more all over detroit 5 nights a week, as well as fortnightly live sets on deep space radio. in 1996, laurent garnier witnessed him djing, and invited him to play in paris legendary rex club - a 12 inch for juan atkins metroplex soon followed, with a peel session, and his subject:detroit volume 2 mix cd being distributed worldwide helping to establish him globally as a force in detroit techno. anotherday are very proud to announce the reissue of that legendary metroplex 12 inch, riding the thin line. from the sweeping strings and tribal loops of shut the lites off, to the hissing bassy electro of the funk and woozy techno of the haunting, this is dj bone at the peak of his powers.

total science are back to grace their own imprint cia records, and this time they enlist the musical and technical prowess of fellow bristol associates hydro and war alongside themselves on the reign ep. made up of four killer slabs of fast paced, moving and deep drum & bass, the influence of each party is immediately obvious in each track. total science are infamous for their breaks and rave influences that have often been present in their music since they first started releasing in the early 1990’s. hydro has been releasing music since 2007, working with a slew of respected producers such as break, dlr, fd and halogenix amongst many others. he is infamous for his epic sample collection and the deep and deadly vibe that he brings to tracks. and the young french extraordinaire war has already shown he is a force to be reckoned with, consistently releasing music with a sublime depth and musicality that belies his age – and also a power and punch that consistently rips clubs to shreds. the reign ep brings the finest attributes of each of the parties to the table, and results in a well-rounded collection of music that offers something to a wide range of listeners. whether you want to lock them into a groove, tear the roof off the club, or get them thinking about what will come next in this world, the reign ep has it in spades.

cult duo rework are next up on my favorite robot with a five track ep that shows off their brilliantly inventive house and tech style. the production outfit of daniel varga, michael kuebler deal in left of centre and freaky house with a mischievous afterparty slant. they have been active for more than a decade now and have credits on great labels like visionquest, items & things, meant and the institution that is playhouse. the brilliantly sleazy “talk it off” opens things up with popping drums, playful lyrics and a steely sound that is designed for wonky basement parties. “valencia” goes deeper with warm drums and synths surging along next to an elastic groove that is propped up by energetic and incendiary chord stabs. it’s a subtle but high impact track that will raise the energy levels on any floor. “think about you” has vocals coated in echo and delay and trippy synths that are lively and off kilter. it makes for a track that is brilliantly loose and undulating and cannot fail to get under your skin. final track “attractive” heads in a much more techno direction with surging drums and hypnotic slithering synths that burrow deep into your brain and seep into the night. it is trance inducing for sure, and shows another side to this accomplished outfit. this is a versatile ep stuffed with killer cuts for many different moments in the night, and each is as standout as the next.

italian duo minimono are next to release on elephant moon. side a takes off with the title track, a funky number with groovy bassline, timeless beats and glorious pads. next up is cronimo , which has a disco-inflected rhythm at its core. on the flip, long afterwards maintains the unmistakeable minimono sound, introducing vocal clips to bring a human element to the music this is a jazzy, funk-laced roll out. finally, i see you brings things down to a slower pace which gives you time to absorb the whole ep while also investigating new terrain. a beautiful collection of music we re sure you ll agree. catch it while you can!

roman producer (and a force behind minimalrome label) valerio lombardozzi known as heinrich dressel returns to barba with a second release for our label, titled -the styx swamp-. heinrich has a unique way of combining classic techno and electro sounds with elements from the beloved drexcyan universe and john carpenter leitmotifs, and making them come together in a manner that both moves your body and pushes your mind beyond the point of awareness. as with the previous record, -lurking underwater-, here he pulls off the move with the same efficiency and without sounding like he s repeating himself. -gray slope-, -sailing the nether waterways- and -the styx swamp- are all quite moody and deep, rich with sound and thick with vibe. however, the tracks feel equally at home in 4 am techno situation and a heady afterhours affair. he truly is a master of crafting hybrids whose influences get so flawlessly embedded that it s hard to point them out. if that s not enough, -the styx swamp- got a treatment by nigel rogers aka perseus traxx, a multi-faceted producer and a mighty live act performer. nigel stayed respectful to the original but made the original s bouncy groove into something more direct and reduced, while retaining the same feel conditioned by lead synth s hypnotic quality. we re known to give a little bit of extra love to our releases so (as all before) this one s pressed onto a heavy duty 180 gram vinyl and beautifully packaged in an original artwork by emaemaema.

from 4lux to ten thousand yen, earl jeffers has been serving up plenty of upfront good time house music over the past few years, as well as steering the equally on point chesus alias. now he sidles over to the new melange label with byron the aquarius in tow, and the sun kissed vibes are positively pouring out of the record grooves. eira is where byron flexes some on-point melodic input, laying down ludicrously rich keys to ramp up the soul status of this damn fine garage-y bumper. the demo mix of eira resides on the flip and shows off a more stripped down, raw version that s no less satisfying on the ears.

the crooked man returns to bitter end with an emotional copy only limited pre-release of powerful club pieces... keen eyed aficionado s may spot the homage to mel cheron s classic us label west end records here but while their motto may have been where the sun sets & the stars rise bitter end records embarks on a distinctly more 21st century path to dancefloor salvation... echo loves narcissus - part 1 is the opening salvo in a sonic saga across four movements, marrying, as it does irresistibly uplifting chords and vocal ad-libs to a bass line so thick it ll rattle the windows right out of your ride and knock the tiles straight off the walls of your cerebral restroom. once you ve adequately composed yourselves, we invite you to the 11 minute monster which is get the love on the aa... this recalls the brief but genre defying 1990 jams from mundo muzique s revelation project: synth assisted house-nosis, buoyed by the mantric voice imploration to accept higher states of carnality atop an immersive blanket of propulsive rhythms. once again bitter end rips up the rule book, and crafts a whole set of new, better ones in which freedom reigns light years ahead !

fr011 delivers three techno bombs that perfectly reflect the format sound. things kick off with despite the..., which combines deep grooves to staccato bass pulses designed for peak-time moments. spanish dj/producer aiken delivers a superb remix that is propelled by a nasty industrial groove and coated in dark atmospheres. closing the release is the sinister in the dark, which is as deep as it is trippy...

lovefingers heard the atmospherian years ago on milk beach settlers, a promo-only mix cd comprised solely of australian artists, mixed and released by seminal melbourne dj duo and good friends hey convict! (tamas jones & jason evans). tamas explained that warp factor 9 was a one-off project by john and russell kilby of esoteric post-rock bands the crystal set and bhagavad guitars respectively, and who are brothers of steve kilby (frontman of the church, a prolific australian band we’ve adored since adolescence). we had an immediate epiphany and this project was set into motion

side a features tuesday paris texas a tastefully arranged track with vintage sounds passing nonchalantly through a wild western aural landscape. the music is announced like a cowboy movie dual complete with bar doors swinging on rusty nails in slow motion. mournful guitar strings swirl over a steady horseback galloping beat, expanding into a full-on-fire dance track. halfway through a woman’s haunted voice appears and disappears like an eerie siren, a gunshot is fired (was that a gunshot?), a man whispers “what!?” tuesday paris texas is in no hurry to give an answer.

side b features mirage a desert sound collage glued to a steady pulse that rolls and rolls, circumventing any destination. mirage is a contour map of no surprising peaks just undulating valleys of wistful cathodic sound creeks, sometimes veering off to plains in full view of the moon, in earshot of solitary wolf cries. like tuesday paris texas, mirage is testament of superpitcher’s versatile prospecting beyond the elemental sound tools of the electronic music trade.

music must be free. freedom in music is often suppressed by lack of, or by obstacles for creativity, which stops forward progression. the development that fontan’s songs have gone through, reaching this ep is unexpected and surprising but still, the bodies and characters of the original songs are intact and recrafted with fingerspitzengefuhle. from the core of fontan’s psychedelic and dreamy music, the artists involved on this release have hit cuts and chips off like cro-magnon people creating specific tools. tools with the power to blow holes open in the listeners mind.

sunlightsquare keeps on exploring multiple style of house music this summer. the previous single from the last month -oyelo- was a winning combination of authentic latin cuban music and classic 909 house beats. it was championed by ron trent, osunlade, hunee, bradley zero, nick the record and atjazz to name a few. this time, the main man and keyboard wizard claudio passavanti deployed two remixers for deeper and more spiritual endeavour to showcase his magical composition. hailing from the birth place of south african house music pretoria, the talented young producer blaqtone laid out beautiful sunset pad, earthy african percussions and solid rolling beats, all work like magic with claudio s original spiritual keyboard works. on the flip side, kay suzuki pulled off another dubbed out psychedelic mix with -astro dub-, just like the previous release, and the more dance-floor oriented classic deep house style of -moon mix- influenced by the likes of larry heard. the track features sequenced mini-moog bass line and call & response drum programming before blissful harmonies and melodies kick in.

room ii records is a new imprint run by two brothers based in london, which focuses on giving a platform to up and coming artists. ‘the black ep’ is the first in the series.
kicking off the series are three tracks by tr all varying in style and technique. soft pads and playful keys bounce along a grooving bassline on ep and every future summer set opener ‘fantasia’. ‘ub city’ is made up of field recordings taken from a recent trip tr made to india last summer. the flip side shifts again culminating in a live drum breakdown that’s supported by a subtle, acidic bass line - ‘10am acid jam’ is an outright dancefloor weapon.

berlin-based producer, yapacc take on the original sees him transferring the song into a dancefloor-ready track whilst subtly maintaining the ambience of the original. off-beat house-esque sub-rhythms and a melodic bassline helps to keep the energy of the track moving forward, whilst the top end guitars and vocals keep the listener interest up until the very last second. russian-based dave pads remix also helps the original move onto the dancefloor with this incredibly funky, groovy-laiden back beat which simultaneously manages to hold onto the original tracks esthetical ambience. euphoric house stabs and a continuous layered texture sits behind the tracks groove, adding a sense of nostalgia and depth to an already emotive original.

monday off is a new, vinyl only imprint from brooklyn founded by mary yuzovskaya. its ethos is to showcase artists from around the world that explore techno’s hypnotic side, specifically where trippy and dark productions go deep yet dynamic. the label’s inaugural release consists of two spellbinding original tracks from new jersey-based producer chanski, and includes a dance floor burning remix from one of warsaw’s premiere rising artists, michal wolski. each of these three tracks were crafted to mesmerise listeners via their subtle flow, but are powerful and propulsive enough to make them dance!

belgian producer krewcial is one of those producers who flits in and out of activity, and has done so since the mid 90s. lumberjacks in hell have called upon this slippery character to lay down some righteous grooves for their latest missive, and the results are sublime. -2u- is funky house how it should be done, all stomping drums, dreamy pads and soulful licks for the party people in the place. -heal- takes a more edited approach, holding back the bass for the ultimate dancefloor payoff. -hit me off- ramps up the jazzy keys for a detroit flavoured looped up throwdown, and then -the session- fires off one last sumptuous rip through peak time perfection

danish composer the swan and the lake is at it again with his trademark widescreen soundscapes wrapped around eight new tracks of exquisite scandinavian balearica. with the release of his first album -moments- last year on copenhagen’s music for dreams, we were introduced to a unique artistic vision. with one foot in the ambient chill out spectrum and the other in everything from classical avantgarde, idm and jazz, the music of emil svane breum under his alias the swan and the lake is both very accessible yet complex. on his new album -clouds- we see him expand on those same ideas and with seemingly simple means achieve extraordinary strong emotions. opening side a, the jazzy intro of -fresh food- leads us into a sublime piece of hazy ambient groover that could easily be mistaken for a lost 80s production from japan. -clouds over Østerbro- keeps things playfully cool and adds elements of scat singing and xylophones, layered over breum’s shimmering bright chords. while the title suggests we are still on danish soil, this feels like a five minute vacation to a tropical paradise. guitarist johan liepstack makes a guest appearance on -summer in december- which comes off as an understated anthem that could break out into euphoria at any second, but manages to stay in a sombre state all the way through. on the track -plastic pacific ocean remake- we are visited once more by airy vangelis-like vocals which assume the role of a nurturing angel, guiding us to a comforting state of relaxation and healing, as breum lays down an overwhelmingly beautiful synth serenade with chords that hit you right at the core of your most vulnerable state. flip over for the mallorca inspired track -port d andratx- which comes in two versions - part 1 (sun) shines like a perfect escape into that cafe del mar/ hostal la torre sunset while the more deep and melancholic part 2 is aptly named rain. the gentle trickling of -waterfalls- sees breum mimic the eternal cycle of water, creating an organic and ethereal composition that stretches out seemingly without beginning or end. and finally on -heaven’s voice- we see breum in his most epic and emotional mood, as he steers us through a slow explosive force of cinematic sounds. it all ends with a heartfelt spoken word contribution by guest vocalist neonbi.

jad & the sends off the ladyboy (fka jad & the ladyboy) and has a going away party to celebrate. the party starts off with some sad cries (it’s always sad saying goodbye), then the yeah band starts playing to take peoples minds off their sadness, after their afrocentric set the guy who always has the discogs window open and 7 inch adapters in his pockets jumps up and plays a disco dancefloor tool designed to tease but please. now that everyone s warmed up and ready for it, the next dj drops some underground real shit which even gets a nod from the high brow dj squad in the corner. the twelve people there lose their shit. great night had by all.

the 2nd release from i walked by night comes firing out of the southside of glasgow. a young man by the name of the burrell connection has been flying under the radar for a few years now... a perth native / glasgow immigrant has been making music since he was 15, his first release came via west end communications (003) in 2015. since then he has released most recently with craigie knowes on the amazing 2nd annual war child fundraiser along with legowelt, shanti celeste, neville watson and many more. southside was made with a juno 6, yamaha dx21, roland tr8, korg minilogue and twisting samples and recording most tracks in one take with little post editing. this ep oozes raw energy and shows off a delicate deft touch. after debuting at the warehouse project in 2016, the burrell connection will be producing his first live show in 2017.

vinyl only reach their seventh release with a fresh grip of lesser known producers bringing high grade grooves to the table. bubbadog opens the 12inch up in a woozy fashion with the warbling piano chords of goin round, capturing a time-slip mood that carries through to the dusty jazz soaked beat down of minus the majors strole on through. on the b-side, alex zuiev gets into an exotic, chiming, 80s-inflected mood on down by the river, creating a slow-burning dancefloor heater out of classic ingredients. ugly frankie finishes the ep off with the stripped down funk of your ears look great

“the marshall suite” is a 1999 album by the fall (their 20th). the album builds on the techno-influenced beats of its predecessor levitate (1997), while also returning to a more rockabilly-influenced sound reminiscent of earlier fall line-ups.
the end result has songs like the catchy “touch sensitive”, and the strange, complex, thumping jungle beats of “crying marshall”.
the album was long out of print on vinyl, until now.
